      Canadian Connection

by Jan Carlisle

Parkinsons doesn't take a holiday....It's summer time and the living is easy, well for the most part anyway. Wouldn't it be great if our pd just decided it had had enough and packed it's bags and left us for a while. Alas, this is just not possible and so, we press on. I know of many plwps in Canada that are taking vacations this summer, pd or not....Some have made their way to the northern regions of Ontario, beautiful lakes, calm water, nature trails, others are relaxing in boats, canoes, rafts along the many lakes and rivers across Canada, still others are visiting places in Canada they had not been to before. I took my family to the beautiful city (la belle ville) of Quebec this summer. What a city, historic, friendly, very cultured...we had a blast. The Parkinsons did get in the way sometimes, but I was determined not to let it ruin our holiday. When I wasn't feeling good, I would stop, rest for a while and rejuvenate. I managed well, I'm happy to say...

Summer is half over for us northerners, can you believe it? 5 months and it will be Boxing day.... This is the time that I begin to think about the fall and our annual Superwalk for pd. This too, does not take any holidays, nor should it. There have been people in place working behind the scenes for some time now, no holidays for them I'm afraid. We anticipate a great walk this year and look forward to much support. Oh, in case you haven't had enough of holiday time yet, the grand prize for our SuperWalk is two airline tickets from Virgin Airlines, from Toronto to anywhere in continental North America....Happy holidays everybody....Jan Carlisle

Second Annual Parkiepalooza

Members of the Toronto Young Onset Support Group are planning their second annual fundraising dance to raise funds for Parkinson’s Awareness and Research.

This year’s event takes place on October 13 at the Markham Fairgrounds. This venue holds about 1 000 people and we hope to fill it this year.  Good music, great food and terrific company together with prizes, draws and a silent auction make this a really good time.  Tickets are $20/ person and are available from chris.hall@sympatico.ca.
