Brenda Tucker of PLWP Guest Speaker at the Northeast TN Parkinson’s Support Group

Christmas Gathering at Limstone Cove Ruritan, Unicoi TN

On December 3, 2005 the Northeast TN Parkinson’s Support Group was honored to host Brenda Tucker of Kodak, TN (just a hour or so down the road) at their Christmas gathering held at the Limestone Cove Ruritan in Unicoi, TN this year. Brenda spoke to the group of 60 in attendance after a wonderful east TN home-style prepared feast by the Limestone Cove Ruritan, and some musical entertainment by a local woman’s trio called “One Accord.” She mentioned the organization that she is most closely associated with, that of PLWP (People Living With Parkinson’s—an online internet group at www.plwp.org) and how it has brought her into touch with many people around the world with Parkinson’s, as well as carepartners of people with Parkinson’s Disease. One of those people is a Parkinson's Disease patient from Johnson City, Peggy Willocks, whom Brenda met online 6 years ago as Peggy scoured the internet for information and support about living with Parkinson's Disease. Others attending the event who also met Brenda through PLWP online were Bobby Cardwell, Judy Hensley, and Mike Johnston.

But PLWP was not the main focus of her ‘fireside chat’ with us. Brenda made us think about how we get power from knowledge, different ways knowledge is obtained, and how important these things are in helping us live life. The result of knowledge put into action is power...the ultimate human desire for each of us, whether we have Parkinson's Disease or not.
