"Better late than never" has taken on new meaning in our lives. Since the 20
+ years the Parkinson's "process" has been working on my husband, Judd, we have
finally come to a realization of the critical importance of the medicinal
qualities of the foods (including water) we eat and drink. Now that he has been
off ALL Parkinson's medications for over a year, watching the relentless
progression of the continuously life changing symptoms of this hideous and
complex condition, we have finally recognized the "wake up call" to do something
SIGNIFICANT about changing our nutritional habits. We had often longed for the
idea of having a scientifically based, medically oriented program to relate what
foods directly affected the health impairments we were observing. The first
program to significantly and specifically deal with Parkinson's and various
neurodegenerative disorders, was located in 2004 at
www.br13.com. Now that
our standard medication approach had ended, due to lack of any perceived benefit
and increasing detrimental effects, it became essential to find some mechanism
to cope with the physical and mental changes racking Judd's system. We knew we
had to find new avenues on our Parkinson's 'journey" and the culmination of years of personal research turned out to be right under our noses - in the foods
we were eating!
"Nutritional Medicine" is not to be found in the traditional medical or standard
dictionaries. Upon exploring the Web for the phrase, numerous sites can be
found, mostly commercially oriented. That is why, during our years of
"selective" research for the process, products and purpose we felt we
specifically needed, the Nutritional Medicine Research UK presented by Dr.
Grinstein now stands out as a one-of-a-kind venture.
So what is the bottom line to the facts and information? There seems to be an
"awakening" throughout the world that we truly "are what we eat". This coupled
with improved medical knowledge indicates that we all (symptomatic or apparently
healthy) can benefit from the movement to educate ourselves about the
nutritional needs of our bodies and minds. Each individual has a "chemical
history" based on nutritional habits and environmental exposures. Our great
challenge today is to seize the opportunity to bring science, medicine and
nutrition together in each of our own lives to remedy the deficits in health
increasing numbers are experiencing. Whatever the age, whatever the condition,
people can move toward a point of "wellness" rather than "illness" (with its
accompanying man-made medications) by taking the initiative and finding the best
dietary/nutritional changes needed to improve symptoms. No more "top down"
approach for us - receiving dictates and being confused by those who are
supposed to "know" what is best. We all have the capacity, whether trained or
educated in "medicine" or not, to run our own "home-based trials" to eliminate
the destruction in our lives by illness, injury or "idiopathic" (of unknown
origin) intrusions. We suggest that each person now has the responsibility to
help move the medical
community into a new generation of Nutritional Medicine by encouraging doctors
to include nutrition in their treatment plan - not according to commercial
interests, but according to the documented findings and observations of their
clinical "partners" - the patients!
It has been said that "the good medical doctors of the future are going to also
be nutritionists". This is reflected by Peter Shepherd at his website: "The
medicine of the future will no longer be remedial, it will be preventive; not
based on drugs but on the best diet for health."
We would add that diet (eating habits) is the actions based on nutritional
knowledge - and the most productive eating habits (and resulting health) will be
based on the best nutritional knowledge - knowledge obtained directly by our own
dietary practices used each day.
We now have the power to actually help make "Nutritional Medicine" come into
real time existence - not by waiting for a prescription handed down by a
physician with limited time to know what is happening in our life, but by
writing our own "prescription" in the field of nutrition by
*Defining our own nutritional needs through testing and learning *Collaborating
with certified nutritionists, researchers, neighbors, family, etc. *Acting on
what is decided, by the user, to be the most effective and relevant pursuits for
him/her.
In light of this, it is good to keep in mind "a little knowledge can be a
dangerous thing". In reality, we are only at a point of a "little"
knowledge about nutrition and medicine. As Dr. Grinstein writes: "Chemistry has
so far been able to identify more than 5,000 compounds of plant origin. These
chemicals have been identified and chemical formulae have been proposed for each
one of them. However, these constitute less than 0.1% of all plant molecules in
food. The present methods and knowledge in analytical chemistry are still far
from being advanced enough, to allow us to identify all the compounds and
substances with medicinal properties in plants and food." (PD and MSA Research
Newsletter, November 2004, part 3) He further adds something in which we
have great confidence:
"Our Research has shown that there are in nature, in specific fruit and
vegetables, substances able to activate those brain stem cells to generate new
neurons that are able to rebuild damaged areas in the human brain. God has given
to us in nature, the means to heal, even in the most critical circumstances. We
hope and pray that one day many, many more people, doctors and scientists, will
believe, understand and recognize the science of this plain truth" (PD and MSA
Research Newsletter, November 2004, part 3)
The commonly used catch phrase by Albert Einstein is "if we knew what we were
doing it wouldn't be called research". Such limited degrees of knowledge can be
dangerous when commercial interests use pieces of information for special
interest gain. That is why the human being's individual welfare must be the main
focus of the reason and purpose for all that is done nutritionally and
medically, in combination. Sadly, that is not the case in today's free market,
competitive, "business-based" medical and nutritional products systems.
Therefore, each individual must take charge of his/her own nutritional health,
more now than any time in history.
At some time in the search for the best course of action a person must use faith
(in themselves, the product, other people or God) as their guidepost for knowing
the truth about receiving benefit from the increasing multitude of discoveries
being achieved. Most do not grow and handle their own food from the seed to the
table and even fewer are in the labs and clinics to exploring the scientific
truths we all need. This is the reason why the science of medicine and nutrition
need to come together to help patients fully understand what "Nutritional
Medicine" has to offer. As Dr. Grinstein advocates, assessing the variables that
apply in each individual's lives, wisdom can then be applied, and individual
freedom can be strengthened in the process.
Thus far, based on our experiences, we conceive Nutritional Medicine as: · An
opportunity to find new avenues of overcoming the symptoms of illness and
neurodegenerative conditions · A learning experience with each individual having
the potential to exercise his/her own powers of observation and choices to serve
his/her own interests and needs more effectively · A means of using a "teamwork"
approach to obtain more relevant, safe, and accessible benefits to improved
health for themselves and those for whom they care.
Our pursuits of the most effective nutritional program for us have resulted in
using Jay Kordich's (the "Juiceman") Power of Juicing program in combination
with Dr. Grinstein's Nutritional Medical Research UK Program. Due to witnessing
definite improvement, we now have to ask ourselves "Where would we be today if
we had been encouraged to begin this approach 20 years ago?" Where will the
children of today be in 20+ years if they are now encouraged and supported to
use nutritional medicine approaches in their lives? Though it is impossible to
"prove a negative" (such as, would better health today have resulted from a
different approach toward medications?), would Judd have fewer symptoms today if
we had approached "medicine" with a different mindset? Will I never develop a
condition such as his if I continue to use products and programs based on
nutritional medicine? I'm only two years younger than Judd was when he was
diagnosed with Parkinson's at age 56 - Will the work and effort I put into
nutritional changes today be worth the possibility of having a life free of any
neurodegenerative condition? How will the incidence and prevalence of
neurodegenerative conditions change IF nutritional medicine is actively engaged
in and deemed acceptable by the traditional medical community?
We have hope for the future due to medicine and nutrition "teaming up" for us,
implementing years of efforts of researchers like Dr. Grinstein. We are
certainly enjoying the tasty benefits of Jay Kordich's juicing for health
program now energizing us. The "gold standard" for us is no longer sought for in
a man-made pill. Rather, we now look for the God given, non-toxic, food and
water from natural, less polluted sources. In short, we have decided to make the
"late" choice - for us "never" is just not an option!
