The Houston Area Parkinson Society

OUR MISSION: HAPS advocates for and serves those impacted by Parkinson's disease in our community.

The Houston Area Parkinson Society serves and advocates for those impacted by Parkinson’s disease in our community.  Founded in 1974, the Houston Area Parkinson Society, a non-profit organization, is one of the oldest local Parkinson's disease support groups in the United States.  HAPS provides services to nine counties, having a population of more than 4,600,000 in the greater Houston area.  About 85% of our budget is directly devoted to our Parkinson's programs and Parkinson's research.

The Houston Area Parkinson Society provides numerous programs and services to both members and non-members.  Each week HAPS provides 32 free physical, occupational, speech, water, Tai Chi, and other therapy groups for the Parkinson’s community.  Free support groups to enable Parkinson's patients and caregivers to share their experiences in a warm, friendly environment are also provided.  HAPS also offers free transportation services to and from qualified Parkinson's patients' homes, therapy sites, and doctor visits.  Respite and other services are available for those who qualify.  HAPS is active in grassroots advocacy with local, state and federal governmental bodies.
