Photos of Kent

These photos are of apple and pear orchards that surround where I live in Kent. I take the dog a walk through them every day, hence the photo of "Jess" my golden Labrador. Kent is known as "The Garden of England" since most of our fruit is grown here.

Photos of Seattle

These photos were taken at  the tugboat races in Seattle on a fine spring day. The first shows the start of the race and shows two large tugs from the Crowley fleet putting the pedal to the metal. The Response is in the foreground with the Hunter behind.

The next shows both boats racing toward the finish. The Response was the winner off the starting line but it was the Hunter at the finish. It was amazing how much they chewed up the water. We were on the Charles Kane, a 100 foot boat belonging to the Seattle Maritime Academy and were having quite a ride in the confused water left in their wake.

To get to the waterfront from Lake Union requires a trip through a set of locks since there is a difference in elevation of around 15 feet depending on tides. We have reached the lower elevation and the gates are just starting to open.

Last is the Charles Kane back at dock after the trip.
