Getting
Involved
There’s a lot more to the
Grassroots efforts than being political. Getting involved can also
benefit you directly. The obvious benefit is that you may help bring
about a more efficacious therapy or even the cure . Less obvious
benefits are the effects it can have on your state of mind. The
grassroots approach is one that expects a positive outcome, a cure in
our time and the belief that we can help make that happen.
I've been making contact with
other people with Parkinson’s since I was diagnosed in 1997, and that
gave me some perspective about my own situation. My outlook has grown
brighter as a result. I see that people have different ways of being
involved but the one thing we have in common is a feeling that we can
shape our own future.
In this issue of VIRTUALITY we’ll
tell you about some of the people involved in the grassroots efforts
and where you'll find the information they gathered for us.

On a personal note ...
This is the first issue of
‘Virtuality’ to be produced since summer of 2002. I wasn’t sure I
would be able to produce 'V' or care about anything again after the
death of my husband last September so it was put on hold. For the past
few months nothing much mattered much to me . My apathy was a kind of
emotional pain-killer, a shot of Demerol to the heart.
I want to tell you one thing
though, every day is precious, not to be wasted. Experience each day
as fully as you can because even the best planning can’t protect you
from random chance.
