Northwest Parkinson's Foundation (NWPF)Bill Bell, Executive Director www.nwpf.orgThe Northwest Parkinson's Foundation (NWPF) was founded in 1998 to pursue the goal of establishing a regional center to provide comprehensive medical care, rehabilitative therapies, support and education for Parkinson's patients, their families and others with movement disorders. It was created out of the frustration of family members of patients suffering from Parkinson's Disease in being able to locate and receive comprehensive medical care and support services for their loved ones.
In June, 2000, the Booth Gardner Parkinson's Care Center opened and provided treatment for its first patients on the campus of Evergreen Healthcare in Kirkland, Washington. The Care Center provides comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and support from a team of specially trained professionals including a physician with a specialty in movement disorders.
The NWPF has accomplished its first goal in establishing the Parkinson's Care Center. NWPF has been dedicated to increasing access to the most current treatments and care for persons with Parkinson's Disease and providing and disseminating accurate information on available state-of -the-art treatment and care modalities for patients and their families in the Northwest Region.
Editor's note: The NWPF evolved form a grassroots effort - a need and a dream, and someone to make it happen. Bill Bell was that someone. For a most interesting interview with Bill, visit the Grassroots Connection site at this link:
