First and foremost, we want to thank our VIRTUALITY co-editors Carol McLeod and Peg Willocks for such a great issue.  Since the last issue of VIRTUALITY, both of these dedicated individuals have had life changing events occur in their individual lives.  Carol and Peg, we welcome you back and offer you our heartfelt appreciation for your perseverance and dedication to the efforts of PLWP as well as the Parkinson’s community.  This e-zine is a valuable communication tool and has been sorely missed.

This issue is dedicated to the growing unity of the grassroots Parkinson’s effort.  PLWP is proud to share in this growth and honored to promote those individual efforts whose contributions are making a difference in the big picture of the Parkinson’s community. 

We’re pleased to share several positive accomplishments enjoyed at PLWP.  These accomplishments are a result of the efforts of many PLWP members and an example of what can be achieved through perseverance, unity and caring for our fellow man.

AN ACTIVE CHATROOM…MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Due to the efforts of several of our members, both new and existing, our Yahoo Group Chat room is making a difference in the Parkinson’s Community.  We have scheduled times that we guarantee there will be someone in the chat room to talk with.  These times are:

We now have a session for the newly diagnosed members.  This session however is not limited to the newly diagnosed so please feel free to stop in and welcome our new members.  Anyone with questions, concerns or comments regarding the early stages of Parkinson’s are welcomed.  The time for this special session:

Other chat room hosts are needed to serve our membership.  We have an increasing number of international members.  Thus the “wee hours” of the morning EDT time need to be hosted.  If you want to know more about what hosting entails or if you are willing to be a host, please email us at plwp2000@yahoo.com .  We look forward to hearing from you.

 

 AN AMAZING INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP

During the last two months we have had 44 new PLWP memberships. This is an amazing increase.  What is even more impressive is that over twice that number, have joined the Yahoo Group plwp2, which hosts our chat room and is being configured to be our official mass membership email tool. We credit this growth to several reasons. PLWP is starting to show up in Parkinson’s magazines that are circulated in many of the doctor’s offices throughout the United States.  Also the increased activity of the chatroom, the increased efforts of the Parkinson’s grassroots and the unity realized.  The linking of websites, homepages and other Internet facilities is resulting in an increase in awareness, which ultimately affects all of us.

 

MORE MEMBERS GETTING INVOLVED AT PLWP

Members new and old are getting involved, helping PLWP make a difference.  The extent of a member’s involvement is strictly up to the individual.  In order to cover the needs of fellow PLWPs, anything you do helps.  PLWP is about people…people helping people…focusing on quality of life issues.
