Hello
again Dear Friends,
The
older we get, the more profound all the clichés become. Clichés like
“time flies when you’re having fun” or “the older you get the faster time
goes by.” Here it is the first of August, almost football time again! It
seems as if it were only yesterday that we were singing Jingle Bells.
The
on-line family is out in the sun these days, enjoying life, as it should
be. This is a good thing, and we know we will all be back settling in and
catching up with each other when the good weather starts to fade. Even
though things have been quiet there has been a lot going on. We have been
keeping our husbands busy with a lot of “ honey do” weekends and we know
that they are glad to be back at work getting some rest!! The Rochester
Golf tournament to raise funds for PLWP just happened in July and was a
great success. Patti and Ron Hager are busy working on the 3rd annual Golf
tournament in Kentucky, which is scheduled for October. Thanks to Sunshine
and Jane Martha we have several PLWP’s getting together in October at
Myrtle Beach for conversation and fun.
We
have also begun putting together our presentation that we will give
November 9th at the Pri-Med Conference in Boston. This
preparation has caused us to reflect on the progress PLWP has enjoyed
since April 1, 2000. Our presentation is about the creation and growth of
PLWP entitled "The Future
of Internet-Empowered Patients: New Relationships between Providers and
Patients". We would be interested in hearing from those wanting to
participate regarding your personal observations as to how the Internet
has effected your involvement with the physician. We would very much
enjoy incorporating some of your thoughts in our presentation.
We have
also been invited to attend the Morris K. Udall Centers of Excellence
in Parkinson’s Disease scientific meeting August 11-13. Scientists
from the 11 Udall Centers, along with Program Directors from the National
Institutes of Health, will discuss scientific advances made over the past
year and directions for the coming year. This proves to be an interesting
and educational experience, one that we will share with you in the next
issue of Virtuality. Hopefully we will be able to take photos on the
tours of the labs and facilities that we can also share with you. The
optional tours include:
-
Isaccson Udall Center
Core B: fMRI laboratory
-
Lansbury Udall Center:
Laboratory for Drug Discovery in Neurodegeneration
-
Clinical Innovations –
DBS cases & Transplant video
-
Isaccson Udall Center
Core B: Animal PET lab
Beth
Bennett and Mike Pohl are going to be working together on the membership
team. We have several new members that we want to welcome and set up some
personal chat time with. Beth and Mike are very enthusiastic and we are
looking forward to their participation and suggestion. Remember, we are
constantly trying to improve and grow so if you have any suggestions or
want to volunteer, please contact us at
PLWP2000@yahoo.com
So until
next time, be well and be safe.
Love and
Hope,
Nan & Bren
