About FAQ |
| A. If I don't find the answer to my question, then what? Send us your question using the form at the very bottom of this FAQ sheet. |
About Us |
| A. Is PLWP just a website for support? Actually PLWP is much more than a website, even though that's how we started. PLWP is a non-profit organization of, for and by people living with Parkinson's with primary focus on quality of life issues. |
| B. Does PLWP "Do" anything? PLWP promotes awareness, encourages advocacy and has ongoing programs such as a regimented Benevolence program to aid our members in special need and also a program known as The Baby Jack Program (cord blood for research donation project). Check out the "About Us" in the drop down menu. As a matter of fact, most of the questions answered here in the FAQ are detailed on the website. |
| C. Can I make a donation to PLWP? Yes, just make check payable to PLWP, Inc. and mail it to us at P. O. Box 25310, Rochester, NY. We are a 501(C)3 non-profit organization. |
| D. Where is PLWP located? We are internet based only. |
| E. What is the US mailing address? PLWP, Inc., P.O. Box 25310, Rochester, NY 14625-0310 |
| F. Why PLWP instead of PWP?
Deciding on a name for the website which evolved into an organization was more difficult than one might think. We finally decided that PLWP (People "Living" With Parkinson's) would include family and friends of the PWP (people with Parkinson's). From the beginning PLWP was meant for everyone effected by this exasperating disease. |
Yahoo Groups - Chatroom, Messaging, etc. |
| A. I was a member of PLWP Group, why do I have to join PLWP2?
Due to technical difficulties, we lost public access to the first PLWP Group started a couple of years ago. If you were a member of it, your membership to this group does not automatically apply. |
| B. Why use Yahoo Groups for our chatroom? We have looked and looked for a chatroom that is better than Yahoo. We have not found anything that fits our needs better than Yahoo. |
C. What other Yahoo Group functions does PLWP use?
|
|
|
| D. I've already joined PLWP2. How can I change my settings? You can do this in Yahoo Groups with your "Edit My Membership" option in the top header that you can edit at anytime. |
Membership |
| A. Why do I have to join PLWP more than once? PLWP, when possible, for cost efficiency uses pre-existing, good quality internet tools. Yahoo Groups requires a Yahoo Membership as well as a Group Membership in EACH Group. Membership in PLWP, Inc. must be done thru our website membership registration. |
| B. Are there membership fees? No |
| C. What about confidentiality? Your personal profile confidentiality, as with the PLWP website, is of utmost importance to us. We WILL NOT give your personal info including your email address to anyone. You control that on Yahoo Groups with your "Edit My Membership" option in the top header that you can edit at anytime. On the website, we will not share it without your authorization by email to PLWP2000@yahoo.com |
What can I do to help? |
| A. Low Level ... JOIN PLWP (www.plwp.org, drop down menu option
"Get Involved") You being a member,
keeping your personal info up to date and knowing we're here for you is what
we're all about. |
| B. Medium Level ... Learn what's available and how to move
around both the website and Yahoo Groups.
As much as possible, participate in on-line events such a chatrooms, message
boards, survey requests, etc. Tell others about PLWP. |
| C. High Level ... Promote PLWP actively. Host general chatroom
sessions (all that entails is putting it on the
CALENDAR, advertising it on all PLWP message boards a few days in advance and
showing up for it). If you see a member of PLWP needing help getting around the
site, needing personal help such as the Angel Team, Benevolence etc., help them
yourself or find someone who can help you help them. |
| D. Volunteer Level ... Volunteer your time and efforts by
selecting dropdown menu option "Get Involved" on
the front page of the website (www.plwp.org) and VOLUNTEERING. We will contact
you. |
| NOTE: Your level of involvement is totally up to you. We all have Parkinson's and respect each individual's limitations as well as personal preferences. We're just glad you're here! |
| How do I...? |
|
We realize that many of you are new to the web world and we admire your
gumption in tackling it. PLWP is an organization of, for and by people
living with Parkinson's. We make every attempt to make the site user-friendly
while at the same time usable, educational and FUN. Therefore, we are in
the process of developing a "How Do I...?" page for all of us to use. Remember,
that it's a work in progress. We are going ahead and give everyone
access to it for two reasons. One, maybe we've finished the "How Do
I...?" that
you're looking for and second, you can make suggestions by completing the "Additional
Request" anytime you want...as many times as you want. So take a gander, watch out for misspelled words, bad
grammar and falling rocks! You're in a construction area! ...now... Just Click: "How Do I...?" |
