Yes, I've archived the comments section...FINALLY! As of today, the 21st I believe, I have only archived this section and Bea's Journal. I will be archiving on and off for a couple of days. As always, thanks for your patience.

Oh yea, I finally found out how to get the program to post latest entry first. So as I archive, I will be changing your journal to do this.

Before you ask, no this form is different, I have not worked on it yet with the exception that I have archived.

If one would like to contribute to this organization how would this be done. Also what purpose do donations serve in your organization, where does the money go and who decides its use? Per $ how much goes directly to helping those with parkinson's or related diseases versus maintaining this site and paying administrators, advertising etc? Thank you in advance.

Peg: Your journal empathises, entertains, explains, emotes and educates (and those are just the "e" words). I read it all the time and selfishly do not want you to leave. It is serious work, but it is also important for those who feel comfortable sharing details of their lives; to record where we are at, where we have been and where we are going. Everyone in this room is in the process of surviving with this disease, and others need to know that we are not just waiting for life to happen. If you don't feel that you have a purpose, tell us what you are feeling. Describe how you survive despite the "downs". I believe that is what this room is all about; writing what we can't always say. Pegster- Please keep writing in your journal. I find inspiration and courage in each entry. I think it would be a shame to take that away from those of us who track your progress by reading how you are in your entries. I would miss that daily dose of Peg! Take some time away, maybe just journal once a week or so, but please don't stop completely! You know that I am here for you if you need anything, but I just wanted to put my thoughts in the pot!

This site is alive and well. Do you recall times when you felt kinda invisible. That nobody was listening to you...that you were the only one hearing your words. Could it be that sometimes our journalist feel much the same way. I admit that I read the journals on a daily basis but only comment once in a blue moon.

We are in the process of creating individual comments so that the comment will go directly to the journalist. This gives you the opportunity of talking privately. For those journalist that we just haven't gotten to yet, please forgive me. Things have come up that had to be given priority. Until time permits, please continue to leave comments for those journalists here.

Take just a minute and let the journalists know that you are interested in what they are saying and that their words are not blowing in the wind. Feedback has a way of stimulating the brain waves and getting those creative juices flowing. Writing to an invisible audience on a daily basis is an extremely difficult thing to do.

Thanks for your comments, Brenda. You are right. Although in some ways we all write for our own reasons and to some degree for our own benefit, knowing that there are other people who feel the same way you do makes you feel a lot less solitary (and weird!). Feedback from others also gives some purpose and incentive to journal. Revealing yourself to an invisible audience is, as Brenda says, not always easy, but when you hear that someone else has had a shared experience, it makes it all seem worth trying to describe.

Writing a journal is both selfish and selfless. We all get something from it or we wouldn't do it. But I like to think we're also giving something back. Most of us write from our hearts, not always our heads and many of us, I am sure, wonder about the wisdom of that from time to time. I know I do.

Darrell, When I taught younger kids, there was a story called Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Its about a young boy for whom, from the moment he gets up, everything goes wrong. When you get over your terrible,horrble,no good, very bad day, it would be a great story to put aside for later reading for your new grandson. Hope your days are improving. Chosh

A quick comment to the poster above. It's a tough question to answer without more specific detail. It's difficult for anyone know the true nature of another. The way that people present themselves and the way that they are inside may be entirely different. People who do not feel good about themselves (or are ill or traumatized)may act in ways that don't seem in character from the observer's perspective, but are perfectly understandable to them. A life altering diagnosis or trauma is just that - life alterting-and it likely changes one's priorities and directions. That changes behaviour. Research indicates however,that while behaviour may vary, basic temperament type does not change once we reach adulthood

However a person who has convinced themselves that they are really someone else, has an entirely different problem that is best dealt with by a doctor. Chosh

I appreciate your answer Chosh. Not to get to complicated here is a little more detail. The father of my partner for six years has recently been diagnosed with parkinsons. He is not an extremely nice person, truthful or was ever God fearing. He half heartedly supported our partnership. In fact he was quite ruthless most of the time, aggressive, he is also a recovering alcoholic, he has also had money troubles for many, many years including a bancruptcy with his now second wife. He has found some support in a group at a local hospital here & it is clear that he is lying to these people. He is suddenly saying he is holy, praising God a lot. Saying stuff like he hopes he will provide. Now this man never went to church. Telling these people that he has never had any money problems until Parkinson's came into his life leaving him unable to work, which is completely untrue. I feel as though he is playing on their sympathy. It is true that he cannot work but to lie I cannot but wonder if he is trying to reap some benefits from others with the same plight. There are plenty of other inconsistencies but I am sure you can understand the things I am saying. I probably sound like a horrible person but I do find his miracle changes a bunch of crap. That was the reason for my question. Maybe he does believe these things even though they are untrue. My partner is of course happy with these changes because he is a more pleasant person for the most part, she just does not or chooses not to see the lies. So what should I do. I never much cared for the man but have always respected him. Just overlook the blatant lies to save face & support my partner. It just feels so complicated. Thank You.

Dear Reader: Your last sentence says it all. It is very complicated and you are obviously looking at more than one issue with your partner's father and his relationship with the two of you. Parkinsons is just one of many factors playing a role here. It must be very confusing to see such a drastic change and frustrating not to know what to do for the best. Thank you for your taking the time to help with my dilemma Chosh. I wrote down your email address & maybe someday will use it. Right now I have to focus on my partner & her feelings. The more I think about it his lies are really neither here nor there in the big picture of things. I think it my personal hang up on liars, lying etc that really inflames me about it. He definetly has psychological issues to begin with & are becoming more apparent with the tangled web of lies he is weaving. Almost it seems he is trying to get people to think he & his family(excluding my partner) are the complete opposite of what they really are. So far it doesn't seem to be hurting anyone, just annoying me. I am glad I found this site as I have been trying to educate myself about parkinsons. The journals are very interesting. Nanny "bought the cow, without first trying the milk," so she's stuck with me. Having said that, I would be afraid of a woman who would pay for a magazine with me in it. I've seen the Toad fresh out of the shower, & it's a scary sight.

As for perseverance, persistance, & enthusiasm, if I didn't have that I wouldn't have nothing.

Hi, I attend UCLA & am working on, actually am complete for the most part on a paper about Parkinson's disease. Part of this includes personal experiences with this disease with not only those effected but the people that care for them/you. I think the paper is pretty much a wrap but if I find some missing links would this be a place I could ask some questions. Regarding making a donation - I believe that donations are budgeted for various categories : expenses, research, activities, etc. Our founders are out of town at the present, but you can go to the opening page www.plwp.org then click entrance, then donations. Donations are tax deductible. PLWP is a worthy cause! Thank you for your consideration.

I'm returning from a "rhyming couplet" sabbatical. Those "Just for fun" threads have been fun and challenging for those of us who enjoy that kind of stuff. They have served a double purpose by making us use different areas of the brain involving language and creativity. Exercise for the brain and laughter for the soul-not a bad combination. Chicken Soup for the Parkie Soul-Can you imagine? More like "Parkie Brains are Chicken Soup"! Pretty soon someone will get fed up with us and we'll have to find a new venue. Things are cyclical like that and there is a time and place for everything. Which leads me to my current dilemna.

Like many others here do from time to time, I am questionning the value of continuing with this journal on line. Perhaps it has run its' course and it's time for me to go. I haven't made a decision yet but it's on my mind. I can't imagine not keeping a journal at all but I'm not sure that the emotional costs of posting here are keeping a balance with the returns any more.

This has always been my very favourite place in PLWP. To me it's been the safest place on the whole site and I click on this bookmark first when I boot up. It is here that one can reveal their inner thoughts without risk of rebuttal. Its always been my feeling that personal journals are off-limits for critiques. That opinion must be shared by the fraternity here and the words that have been exchange between us have been positive and supportive. We have had a nurturing environment. That communication has dwindled lately-perhaps we're all burnt out. I don't believe there is anyone or anything (other than life) to blame. It's just been very quiet in here and I wonder if our outpourings are read by anyone. Some people are no longer writing -likely for a number of reasons. The warm and fuzzy exchanges seem to be missing and we're all moving down different paths.

My journal here is a year old in May and has been a great experience for me, but....perhaps a year enough of anyone's life to be a part of in this format.

I don't really know what to do. My feelings are mixed. I would miss being here but perhaps it's time for a change. Any readers here who know me through this journal are invited to give me input. It is time?

i hope you will continue on with your journal. i think you are very brave. i think it has helped many people.

i think a lot of people read and don't say anything, just lurking, maybe they are a little afraid of intruding, i don't know. i'm not sure if i'm intruding here, now. but, i wanted you to know that i heard you.

the important thing is that you and the other journalers (sp?) make us think, feel, step outside ourselves and see how others handle, cope, or deal with similar situations as ours.

I know exactly how you feel, as I share a lot of the same opinions. Yet just thinking of your not being there in a journal form leaves a void feeling already.

I wonder often if we write more for others or for self release. I expect both at different times. It has been a healing step for me, as I've been able to write about that which I couldn't talk about.

It would be nice to see some "fresh" journalist join the ranks.

Last week I thought of posting a resignation, & I heard from two new people who were touched by my journal. I feel every journalist has touched someone in a way that no others can, due to the differences in personalities & needs. If in the next year, only one person learns to cope better by just one thing that's written, it'll be worth it all.

I suspect it's kind of like it is for the preacher. He preaches his heart out to seemingly deaf ears. That's because it was what he needed to say, MORE than what they needed to hear. Then another time, he preaches & wonders, "Why that Lord?" Maybe it was only for one lost soul that could relate. Everyone had to endure for the sake of one, but it doesn't matter for their day is coming.

I don't mean to equate our journals with preaching. However, to someone with a new tremor, that won't go away, or a new diagnoses that ends a career & shatters dreams, to them we may just be a ray of sunlight they can see, because we've been there, & still are.

Chosh, whatever you decide, you have earned my respect, love, & forever friendship.

When life gives you scraps - make a quilt ... each journal entry that you make may seem like a scrap but put every one together and what a wonderful quilt you have made for all of us with pd.

To Toad & the other journalist:

I could not argee more. For those of us recently diagnosed, each bit of information we can ingest gives us deeper insight to pd.Insight which makes learning to deal with this condition bearable and easier to survive. Frustration is my biggest foe and patience has never been my virtue. I get so frustrated with attempting to do the simplest tasks such as typing this note. You and the others at PLWP are a valuable resource to us because we know by relating to each of your experiences our trials are commons ones.That each obstacle we encounter is real and not imagined . I wish to convey to everyone that is contributing a journal to PLWP this same message . Feel free to pass this along because I hesitate due to my inexperience with this medium .I'm indebted to each and every one for the shoulder you extend to lean on when I need support .Without which it would be a long dark journey alone. Thank you for being there and for all that you are. Someday I hope to return tenfold the favor .

It appears from looking through the comments, that no one visits the journals very often. I, for one, enjoy reading them. As a fellow journalist, find that just writing about my life (pd) or not seems to help a bit.

Mischief--as a young child, I would often sit and have rather extensive "conversations" with an elderly Italian immigrant while he would rock on his porch. Occasionally, he would nod his head. It wasn't until I was a grown woman that I found out that he spoke not a word of English!! Kids know from the heart those who truly appreciate them. I found your story very touching indeed.

Dear Darrel, (and other Journalists) I read all the journals, everyday. Perhaps I should say something more often. I read, I care, I think everyone that keeps a journal is very brave, I think it helps a lot of people to know that they aren't alone.

Sometimes, I get hung up in my own little world and forget that others are having a very tough time of life with pd. A lot of us are going through turblulence and turmoil with kids, meds, work- outside the home or trying to work at stuff around the house.

The journals have helped me a lot, and I want to help others. I have a need to be able to reach out to others and let them know they can reach out to me. I may not have all the answers, but I can listen and help in whatever way I can.

So when you think no one is listening, I am. I know that there must be others here that may not say anything for whatever reasons they have.

Perhaps they are afraid to intrude,like I used to be. These are journals, sometimes private thoughts and feelings, things you do or see. I'm a private sort of person, so, sometimes I feel like I'm invading someone's privacy by making a comment or sending them a poem. The people I've written to have all been very kind, and re-assured me that I wasn't intruding in on them.

In the year 2000 I was diagnosed with pd. Since then I have been searching for answers to a lot of questions . I found a source for those answers ... right here! To each of the journalists .. thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with everyone . I have been following every journal since Jan. . Lately it seems there is a sense of worth being questioned. Please continue!!! There are those of us who rely on these journals as a map to find our way to live with the up and down days of plwp.
