Labors

I wish I could say that I
have come from a long line of artists, but I do not think I can. If so,
no one has ever told me about it and I have never seen it but it has to
run in my family somewhere. I have been doing my artwork for well over 11
years now, however, my first pieces I no longer have. Frankly, I am not
sure what happened with them. I also take much time off between pieces
since they are so time and physically demanding.
Here is a little bit about
me and how I came to be involved with PLWP. I met Brenda Tucker one year
when the company that she worked for, Anderson News Company, acquired the
company I worked for, Kansas City Periodical. I was living in Kansas at
the time. My new supervisor told me that our Topeka, Kansas location
needed a pc and that I was to build it out of scraps I had. I was having
troubles getting the machine to recognize that there was an A: drive in it
when the Vice President of IT walked up and asked me what I was doing. I
explained and he said that I needed to talk to one of the techs at
Corporate, Brenda Tucker. Therefore, I called her. We got the computer
going and stayed in touch until I met her in person when she came to
convert our computers to the new system. After that, we stayed in touch
and became close friends. She is my cyber Mom. I was actually working
for her when her and Nan met in person and came up with the Parkinson’s
site named People Living With Parkinson’s. I have been involved in some
sort or fashion since then, mostly behind the scenes. Now I am the
director of the PLWP’s Baby Jack Project team. If you want more
information about that team please refer to the Teams link within the PLWP
site and click on PLWP’s Baby Jack Project.
The
artwork you see up here is truly labors of my love. I love each piece,
some more than others, but none the less I love them all. The piece you
see here with Michael J. Fox as the subject is really the first piece I
have done with a known subject in it from the start. Usually I just start
and the subjects end up showing themselves to me when I am finished. My
pieces have no names as I do not want to give people preconceived ideas.
I like to have people see their own messages in my work. My completion of
the Michael J. Fox piece is also a present and a fulfilled promise to my
cyber Mom.
Merry
Christmas
Mom!
The short video is a
look at where I do my artwork and what tools I use. It starts out with
you looking through my magnifying glass, adjustable lamp. For those that
cannot view the video, I use Xacto© knives and blades, an
adjustable magnifying lamp, a piece of glass to cut my pieces out on,
material below the glass to prevent the glass cutting the surface I am
working on, glue to paste the pieces together, and special type pens to
sign them. When I first started 11 years ago, I only used a pair of
scissors and glue sticks.
I hope you enjoy
viewing my art as much as I enjoyed creating it. I would like to know
what messages you may see in my artwork. Please send your comments to me
as all positive comments are welcome. This is the first time I have ever
publicly shared my art and since I use pieces of ads from magazines the
right-click and save ability is disabled. This Artwork cannot be sold and
I am not giving permission for any of my Artwork to be used anywhere else.
