Thanksgiving Harvest ….. the Goulash Cookie

We have journeyed together through an amazing year. A new president, continued progress in the medical field, new growth and change right here at PLWP andmost recently that fateful day of September 11th that no one shall forget but one that has changed the face of America and has generated a resurgence of patriotism and prayer. I truly believe that there is a strong belief in a higher power, whether we call Him God or know Him by some other name. There is recognition in this country by its people that faith is why their ancestors came here, (the avoidance of religious persecution and freedom to pursue happiness) and that this same faith is what unifies this country.

Oh how the seasons of our life pass more swiftly as the tempo of the dance of life increases.  Personally, the past two decades have sped by leaving bountiful memories, journeys I never thought I would or could possibly travel but with the years have come a richness and contentment much like a perfect fire on a cold night that can only come from perfectly seasoned wood.

This melting pot we call home reminds me of the Goulash Cookie in which you dump all those little leftover treats such as coconut, chocolate bits, nuts, and raisins in for a heavenly treat. As Americans, we have sought to infuse this land with unique heritages so rich in culture from countries near and far but still open ourselves to others despite the diversity. The result is a most unique blend of caring and compassionate people with a generosity unlike any other.

This Goulash Cookie is alive and well at PLWP and each member already has the recipe. Some parkies have an amazing cup of humor to add, others stir the dough by their listening ability, creativity or by challenging us to think. There are those hosts or hostesses that serve up these cookies in PLWP chat or at Sandy’s porch as they sit back and kick off their shoes to set a spell, and what would a holiday be without Angels to watch over us.

For the Guardian Angels of PLWP who take a special interest in new members, those that carefully read between the lines and offer a hand to comfort, listen or help, may you be blessed especially because it is through you and because of you that the dough retains its elasticity by caring for those in need and shepherds others back to the rest of us.

The list of these ingredients is too long to mention but in the spirit of Thanksgiving let us be thankful for the goodness of each other, the bountiful harvest of talents that have come together at this table and on this Thanksgiving Day may your plate be filled from the fruits of friendship. And for our non-American parkies, join us in this American tradition as you too have made this circle of friendship possible as we stretch our arms across the seas to every land in fellowship.

With Love and Joy in my Heart to Yours A Blessed Thanksgiving

Love,

Carolyn Gambino
